Douglas' City Despatch 59L5 Local Post Stamp

This is the 1-cent Douglas' City Dispatch stamp in deep blue, listed as Scott 59L5. Printed in imperforate format on card-like paper, the stamp carries the address "251 Broadway" and was issued in New York by George H. Douglas. A bold example of private local post service from the classic era, this unused stamp features a clean layout with prominent shading around the central oval.
